Projects 2013 - 2011

2013
  • Children & Youth Projects
    Last year of 2 Boarding Houses, starting the new phase in 01/2014 with the new transitonal home appoach (only 1 house in the near future). The new concept realizes several EXIT-strategies for the children. Our focus is on integration and in particular on re-integration of children to their families or parts of their families, if possible. Children where we cannot track former family members will continue to stay in the house. If needed the families will supported by IGA (Income Generating Activities, Micro finances) or the child/youth will receive a scholarship to continue his education.
    EXIT 2 + 3 will be -if possible and school records allow - vocational training or even University (support included). The concept is nowadays also backed up by GOAL Ireland, which has a comprehensive contract concerning "Empowerment of Children" with our partner Center of Concern. Discussions for the new phase budgets will be started soonest. Finances for 2013 secured.

2012

  • Children and Youth Project
    ... ongoing: 2 Boarding Houses on 2 compounds for all in all 50 children (Streetchildren /OVC). Budget approved: around 36,000 €/year.
    Costs include: food, clothing, medical care, school fees, staff, admin overheads, rentals for 2 houses.
    Time frame approved: 2012 - 2013.

  • Girls project
    ...
    design for a scholarship for 30 girls (Grade 7 - 11) with disadvantaged background. Duration: 2 years. Funds: 12.70€/per girl per month. Application for 11,370 € accepted. Could be extended during course of project. Evaluation in March was excellent.

  • Sanitation & Classroom Extension Project
    for Primary Schools in Southern Ethiopia:

    3,269 € approved
    in Nov ´11 for 6 toilets, waterpipe repairs at Gebeye Dar Primary and Junior Secondary School, Awassa (Pilote project sanitation completed January 01, 2012).

    Sanitation and school extension project for Primary Schools accepted: 15,000 € approved in March ´12. Completed in 01-2013

    Phase 1: 3 Primary Schools in Awassa will benefit. Final evaluation took place in Hawassa, March 2012. Beneficiaries in Phase 1: Addis Zemen Primary and Edget Fana Primary (sanitation - toilet block, septic tank, water access, training on hygiene), Bahil Adarash Elementary School (2 new classrooms). Project started in April 2012. Finished in 8/2012.

    Phase 2
    : Fundraising has started for Nigat Kokeb Primary, Awassa Haik Primary, Addis Zemen (2 classrooms approved). Fundraising events in Hamburg went successful, contract to be signed these days (21.08.2012). Project started in September 2012. Finished in February 2013.

  • School construction
    Project for second High School in Alaba cancelled. Might be realized by JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency). EDGET no more involved.

    EDGET identified 2 Primary Schools in Hawassa for new school construction (see above).
    1st phase started: April 2012. Low cost school construction could be visited! 112m² being built for around 7,000 €! Visitors welcome in Hawassa. Please contact our local Director.

2011

  • ongoing Project: Boarding House for 14 children (plus 2 in due course)
    ... 12,000 €/year
  • ongoing Project: Street Children Phase 3 (1st of April until 31st of December 2011). 30 children full board, up to 7 children day care. Staff: 3 female (Housemother, cooks), 2 male (social worker, house father), 2 teachers for informal lessons, part time staff, nurse.
    ... 17,800 €/ 9 months;
    partnership with "Children First", Italy, ended 31st of December 2011.
  • Solar project for Makibasa to start in September / October. Partnership project: Adama University, Edget Baandnet (Germany), Center of Concern (Awassa), "Engineers without Borders", Berlin, Germany. Project completed.
  • Successful application for 8 more classrooms in Makibasa: donor Japanese Embassy. Construction done by NGO from Awassa.
  • New partnership in progress with People in Need (Czech Republik).

 


A new classroom in 2007: paid for by supporters in Hamburg, Germany

Extension for Alaba High School in progress: Decision 28th of February, 2011. 28,000 € for 4 classrooms, 56 m² each; start: 1st of April, end of construction phase: 31st of July, 2011. Construction completed.
